Did you know?
Neighbourhoods get a reputation with criminals for being an 'easy
touch'. By doing little or nothing to prevent crime residents can foster
this belief making it a more attractive place for criminals to break the
law. Eight out of ten burglaries are committed by opportunists. In three
burglaries out of ten, a thief does not even have to use force to get in -
unbelievable as it may sound someone left a door or window open. Thieves
like easy opportunities. Help reduce the risk of your home being
broken into by taking some simple home security measures.
Similarly cars are broken into or stolen by criminals who cruise areas
looking for vehicles which have been left either with property on view or
in vulnerable circumstances. As the winter months approach cars can be stolen from the driveways of
homes, with their keys, while the owner waits inside for it to defrost.
DO NOT get caught out this winter! Never leave your car keys in the ignition when you go to pay for
petrol. You may get away with it for a time but sooner or later someone
with a mind to will see what you have done and may take advantage.
Be street wise and take a few simple precautions.
