Continuing Bad Weather - 11/01/10

***With the continuing very cold weather and dangerous conditions underfoot, we should be mindful of the needs of our many elderly and vulnerable residents. In particular, they may feel unable to venture out to get essential food shopping or collect medicines etc. It is likely that arrangements already exist in many areas to check on the well-being of our older and vulnerable neighbours and to provide such support as is necessary. Where this is not the case, it would be nice to think that Neighbourhood Watch could take the lead, using local knowledge to identify those at risk and those who may be able to provide help, either with time or the availability of suitable 4x4 vehicles. I know that you will want to do what you can, in these exceptional circumstances.***

Village Shop Burglary - Blockley - 08/12/09

***This is Message 24/09 from North Cotswolds Watch Office at Stow.  On the afternoon of Bank Holiday Monday, 4 May, two males tricked their way into the home of an elderly lady in Stow Road Bungalows, claiming that they were from the Waterboard.  Fortunately, it appears that nothing was stolen on this occasion and no physical harm was caused to the householder.  Please remind your elderly members that they need to be constantly aware of the risks posed by these criminals. In an unrelated incident on Tuesday, police responded to a call from a resident in the Evenlode Gardens No Cold Calling Area and arrested three young males for operating as peddlers without the necessary certificate.  So it's one to us and one to them at the moment.***

Cotswolds Area - Home Security Reminder - 03/11/09

***This is Message 54/09 from North Cotswolds Watch Office at Stow. During the past two weeks, there has been a burglary and an attempted burglary in Bledington, both of which appear to be the work of the same person. One incident took place in Jackson Road and the other nearby, in Old Forge Close. Both occurred during the day, when the houses were empty and were discovered when the householders returned in the evening. NW members are urged to look out for any suspicious persons or vehicles in the village during the day and to report their suspicions to the police immediately on 0845 090 1234. They are also reminded of the need to check that doors and windows are locked and to fit simple timers to lights to give the appearance that empty houses are, in fact, occupied.***
